The Greatest List of all Time : Science Fiction and Fantasy

Re: The Greatest List of all Time : Science Fiction and Fant

This list shows me I really should be reading more normal literature (instead of fanfics).
Nominating:
Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

And just because it should be required reading for everyone on this forum:
Horror Humor and Heroes vol. 2 by Jim Bernheimer, The Authorlord and others.

Fantasy
The Belgariad and The Mallorean
The Wheel of Time
Discworld
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
Shannara

Sci-Fi
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Further nominations from this humble one:
Fantasy
Magic Kingdom of Landover by Terry Brooks (series)
Circle of Magic by Tamora Pierce (series)

~WARNING! MIND AT WORK!~

KH Wiki: The Keyhole
Fairly solid as a resource and rather organized, perfect for newcomers to KH.
Kingdom Hearts Wiki
Parent-site of The Keyhole, a little less organized in my opinion, but goes a little deeper into the mechanics of KH.

Most definitely seconding The Last Question.

Thirding The last Question. You have to give Asimov credit where it is due. A nice philisophical piece.
Also, I have to punch you, jgkitarel, because I spent a lot of time on the nanoha wiki trying to locate information on mages being trained due to being above a certain rank, only to remember and confirm that you were the one that came up with that. - Phht

Seconding Brave New World and 1984 with the power of one thousand exploding suns! I know I'm biased because they're some of my favourites ever, but come on guys, those are classics.

Also adding an unecessary vote to Narnia, The Hobbit, and The Belgariad/Mallorean.

I wish I had some other stuff to contribute, but I wouldn't class my recent reads under sci-fi or fantasy. :/

There are other genres? That's weird.

Seconding Artemis Fowl--I've grown up on that series and loved all of it

Nominating "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" series. It's great fantasy with a LOT of mythology and history mixed in. For a "kids' series" it has more than once sent me to history books and Wikipedia.

I can't believe I had forgotten about it for this long. Considering just how many books long it is and how he tied it in with another series of his.

For science fiction, I'm adding my vote to Ender's Game, Fahrenheit 451, and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. For fantasy, I'm seconding A Song of Ice and Fire and Chronicles of Prydain.

Thirding Artemis Fowl. The beginning of the series is better than the last few books, though. And I'm nominating Perdido Street Station by China Miéville and The Princess Bride by William Goldman.

Also adding my votes to:
Chronicles of Narnia
Harry Potter
LOTR
The Hobbit
Earthsea

dataubman, woudn't Gulliver's Travels fall more under satire? Admittedly, many would classify it as fantasy.

In the science fiction category, I recommend The Warlock In Spite of Himself by Christopher Stasheff, as well as the other books in the series.
