Those are rather handsomely bound.

I am reminded that I really must read the last two or three chapters of that story.

So, some news and lulz. First, the news. We've got ourselves a canonical map of Equestria recently. For those of you who like ponies, frequent this thread but don't frequent Equestria Daily:

Now, the lulz:

I suspect we'll be seeing many pilgrims traveling to this most holy island soon.

Dropping some Pony here for ya'll.

First off, a cacophony of voice actors did a live reading at Canterlot Gardens of the episode Boast Busters. Great thing, or best thing ever? You decide!

Couple new episodes of Rainbow Dash Presents:

And finally, a clip from Season 3! I think it's gonna be a guddin!

So season 3, here we go:

Sombra was a decent threat but not much of a villain. He's definitely no Discord or Chrysalis. But he DOES show the terrifying result of what happens when a unicorn turns over to the dark side. So that was interesting.
And holy crap, Thousand Years ago Equestria sucked. Between Discord, Nightmare Moon and this douche I'm surprised Equestria managed to become as peaceful as it is now. Any other race would've gone full Warrior and never looked back.

And what was that bit at the end between Luna and Celestia about?

Concur in regards to what happens when a unicorn gets drunk on the dark side. And yeah, I'm surprised that Equestria managed to become as peaceful as it did. As for the bit at the end... Would that count as a Stinger Ending, as they say in the tropes?

I agree that King Sombra has, so far, proven to be not quite up to par with our other three villains. In fact, out of the four, he's the only one I'd rank as being lower on my favorite scale than Nightmare Moon.

Of course, there's always the chance that we're not quite done with him either:
Spoiler: show

Oh my God HE'S A LICH!
As for the warrior nation thing. Well, it isn't really luck if all your problems are solved by Luna and Celestia. Really, the rest of pony kind has just been able to sit back and revel in their lives while Celestia and Luna rise up to fix everything. No warrior-nation possibility there.

So I'll throw in my two cents because it seems like most folks really don't like Sombra.

King Sombra is my favorite pony villain, but I only came to that conclusion when I was exposed to a different perspective.

All of the MLP villains all embody some sort of negative concept. Nightmare Moon was bitterness, Discord was anarachy, Chrysalis was deception. While it's not explicitly mentioned, I heard a pretty convincing argument that King Sombra was the avatar of depression.

It makes sense then, that Sombra is a largely unvoiced oppressive black cloud that is constantly attempting to invade the kingdom. It makes sense that the ponies "can't remember what life was like before him". It makes sense that joy dispels him, but it also makes sense that it was ultimately up to it's victims to reject him.

It also casts the episode several tones too dark for the audience, so I can understand why that message wasn't explicitly mentioned.

Anyways, just my thoughts.

Jeez... the Avatar of DEPRESSION? Scary thought, that is.

Dunno... Wouldn't the avatar of depression be kind of passive and self-defeating?

On the other hand, so many fringe horrors in the most recent episode. Especially the 'watching-paint dry test'.

Sombra is an avatar in terms of being a cause, not a representative of the effects. As for Fridge Horror... Which elements are you talking about, Magni?

So, a magic pond that makes clones. Immediately discarded problem-of-the-week or Checkovs Gun for some yet to be determined crisis?

Hmmm... I say we wait to see, but there's certainly the possibility of that.

Anyway, something random!

Pinkies had to stay quiet for a long time to avoid being zapped with magic. I heard stories of prisoners in concentration camps being forced to stay in line for a long long time. If you broke formation or collapsed out of exhaustion you would be shot.

:O_O: Er... wow... That's a bit disturbing to think about...

There is also the fact that the clones, while seemingly somewhat limited in mental capacity compared to the original, nevertheless appeared to be full fledged people. Pinkie's existential crisis about her identity in a world with more or less exact duplicates was completely warranted. But the real takeaway is that Twilight will, without a second thought, brutally murder 24 people who are almost one of her best friends just because they fail an arbitrary test.

She was just following instructions. Which isn't a defense of her actions (obviously) but it does inform us about Twilight's behavior.

Twilight not stopping to consider the ramifications of her actions may have been due to the havoc that was being caused. A group of Pinkie Pie's who don't care about her friends would be very destructive.

And that group of Pinkie Pie's only cared about themselves.

Babs Seed looks awesome. One of the best designed ponies I've seen in the show. Though she is a bit quick to snap from 'pressured' to 'bully'.

Overall, it's a classic aesop episode. Finally.

Did they do a Celestia Letter this episode, or did they just let the aesop stay with the Crusaders and Applejack? Hmmm...

Not gonna lie, the first few songs of this season... weren't my favorites. This one, though, I really liked.

I almost feel ashamed for not seeing the whole "she got bullied before, so she's being a bully to avoid being bullied" twist coming a mile away. Looking back, I should have known the first time she twitched at the mention of cutie marks.

Still, I can't see anyone messing with her anymore, she seemed to develop a bit of a "I'm a tough girl who doesn't take any s#!%" voice to her over the episode, though that may just be her accent...

On that note, how long you think it will be before we see pics of her and the Scout from TF2?

So Zecora is capable of magic. Something common with Zebras or just her? And I'm very interested in the origins of that amulet. It clearly has a history, judging by that book. Where did it come from? I wonder if it has any relation to Sombre. Like maybe he gave in completely to the corruption and made the powerboost permanent. And anyone else notice there's a bit of a Chekov's Armory being built up this season? The magic clone pond, an amplifying amulet.

I was so afraid this episode was gonna suck and ruin my favourite pony. Fortunatelly, it didn't despite the fan-ficky plot.

I especially liked the fact that Trixie was defeated using using illusions and stage magic.
Chekov's Armory
My thoughts exactly.
