Village Building: Shiogakure no Sato

Unread postby Vael » January 13th, 2010, 2:55 am

Heyas! *waves* Vael here.

So anyway, I was reading the stories from Perfect Lionheart's Missing Hokage challenge (details can be found on the author's profile) when a small idea latched on to my mind and never let go, heck it got worse when I also read "Chuunin Exam Day". And what it all boils down to is:

What if, instead of wandering around the countries, like the challenge stated, what if he settled down in Wave Country? Eventually building a new Village there? What would it be like? How would he apply everything he had learned from Konoha's mistakes? How different/similar would the Village be to Konoha?

And that's what this is all about, putting all those ideas down where others can check them out and where everyone has a say in how Shiogakure would be run, economically and politically. However, remember...my village, neh? ;)

However, I have a small problem, you see, I love world building...heck, a friend of mine and I created an entire game system during high school, but in the process of world building, I seem to fizzle out when it comes to writing. I would have entire pages of characters, places, and various miscellenous things related to the genre I'm writing, but putting all those into a coherent plot, well, that fails most of the time. So while I'm doing this, I have to ask the authors amongst you...how do you guys do it? How do you put everything you built into a plot?

Well back to the point of this whole thing :P , in this thread, I'll putting down everything I've worked on, from the pairings (I'll be shot a few times, but heck ;) ) to the government system to the economics. Now I would ask y'all not to comment on this thread, it will confuse me a bit...and I've seen how off-topic y'allst can get (lookin' at ya Anti! :P) there's another thread for comments and suggestions here.

Oh, if y'allst find anything interesting you would like to use in your writings, go ahead...I guess that's why I did this in the first place.

Now where to begin.......ah!

Terms:
This is a dictionary of sorts for the terms I'll be inventing, if you guys see a new term in my writings below, please refer to this.

Shiogakure no Sato - Hidden Village in the Tides, the Village Naruto and Co. build in Wave Country to assist in its economics and defence.

Clans and Characters

The following is basically the characters (and pairings) within the tale, though they will grow into seven clans. To protect themselves (as much as possible) from the interest of other Hidden Villages or Elemental Nations, the following clan names will only be used when a member of a clan is on nin-business, outside that, they will blend in with the populace of Wave Country, constantly changing their old family names when they are married into another family.

The goal here is to make Shiogakure a true hidden village, with no one actually finding it, since there is no actual village in the first place. That way, if any village invades Wave when Shiogakure is fully set up, the invading nin will be facing a constant barrage of gorilla-warfare from an entire Hidden Village-worth of stealth and infiltration experts (or adepts at worst).

*shrugs*

Anyways, the following are the future Clans of Shiogakure, with the founding characters, their specialties as nin and as civilians, their clan summons (the scrolls gained during the wanderings of Tsunade, Shizune, Sakura, Naruto, and Hinata), and any quirks that could become an identifying feature of the Clan (oh, a warning, most of the stuff I write here is b.s. I make up after having seen the character in action, if you guys disagree on any of these points...I regret nothing ^.^; ), along with any special notes that need to be mentioned.

By no means is this list exhaustive.

Uzumaki Clan:
Founders – Naruto and Hinata
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – Fuinjutsu (Seals) / Writers or Artists
Clan Summons – Toads
Quirks – Hinata wrapping a bandage around her head to hide her eyes and pretending to be blind. Naruto standing by his promises and his insane loyalty. Naruto’s addiction to ramen and Hinata’s addiction to cinnamon buns. Naruto’s goofball act and Hinata’s shy act. Both founder’s insane stealth skills (How else can you explain Naruto’s long chases led by the ANBU in a bright orange jump suit? Or what about Hinata’s hiding reflexes?). Naruto’s creativity and combat intelligence/unpredictability.
Notes – For some reason, I can see Naruto passing on his healing abilities, there’s no way that life-long exposure to demonic chakra would not result in some form of mutation otherwise. More than that, there might be a hint of the kyuubi’s chakra in their children, and I can see that hint translating into certain urges/instincts related to kitsune of legend. Those hints could also accept some Hinata’s genes (more especially hints of the Byakugan) in experimental doses (some will have the full Byakugan, others will have certain aspects (360 degree sight/seeing through genjutsu/seeing tenketsu points)), but I see the immunity to genjutsu winning out due to the Father’s weakness to such (is that even canon?). The hint of kyuubi chakra might also give the children’s chakra its own...personality, and maybe even give it the form of a kitsune chakra cloak, including the tail(s). As for Sage Mode...I think that should be something that ONLY the Clan Head could do.

Senju Clan:
Founders – Jiraiya and Tsunade with Shizune’s help
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – Medical Jutsu / Doctors and Pharmacists
Clan Summons – Slugs
Quirks – Jiraiya’s pervasion and Tsunade’s temper/love of sake (there’s no way these are NOT being passed on :D ). Tsunade’s fear of aging.
Notes – Tsunade’s strength technique could be passed on through the clan as one of the few offensive techniques...I really like the idea of an entire corp of super strong medics as well. As for why they won’t gain the Toads as a Clan Summon even if Jiraiya is a part of the Clan, the Slugs are in fact FAR more useful to medics than Toads will ever be, plus I believe that having a contract with the Toads is Naruto’s and therefore, the Uzumaki Clan’s, birthright, after all his father’s sensei and father signed the contract before him. As for why Shizune is listed as a founder, no, Jiraiya is not getting a harem (Jiraiya: Aww...sad face.), instead she could become a surrogate mother to Jiraiya and Tsunade’s children. I mean it should be child’s play for a medic of Tsunade’s calibre to take a bit of her genetic material and Jiraiya’s, and then combine them before implanting it into Shizune’s womb. One of the results of all this tinkering about could be a re-emergence of the Mokuton Bloodline...that’s still in the air though, as that would NOT help Senju Wave nin keep their anonymity during missions.

Nara-Yamanaka Clan:
Founders – Shikamaru and Ino
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – Intelligence and counter-intelligence / Merchants
Clan Summons – Falcons
Quirks – Shikamaru’s easy going (at the least) nature. Ino’s catty nature. Shikamaru’s strategic intelligence and Ino’s sharp wit. Ino’s style. Shikamaru’s vengeful nature.
Notes – Could you imagine what would happen if say the Nara’s techniques and Yamanaka’s techniques were to be merged? That’s what could happen if these two were to join up and create this clan...after all, there is no reason to keep the secrets behind their former clans’ techniques and work together to unite them, making a whole new branch of techniques with unseen applications. I can also see them as being the bogeymen of Wave’s merchants as Shikamaru’s intelligence and Ino’s...*shrug* wit could come together to pretty much clean house wherever the clan member goes. The Clan could also run a series of inns in Wave Country that cater certain services to Shio Nin or even act as Mission Dispatches. Hence Falcons as Clan Summons I suppose...

Tsuki Clan:
Founders – Neji and Tenten
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – Weapon-masters / Craftsmen and Smiths
Clan Summons – Dogs
Quirks – Neji blind-folding his eyes to hide his Byakugan. Tenten’s love of weapons. Neji’s strict formality and Tenten’s easy going nature. Both founder’s professionalism.
Notes – The byakugan might be more prevalent in this clan than the Uzumaki Clan (hmm, sister clans...cool! ^^ ) due to the lack of selectiveness (thanks to traces of the Kyuubi’s chakra) so a good number of the clan might need to remain out of the public eye while doing their trade. Heck, they might even need to have other clans (either the Uzumaki or Nara-Yamanaka) put a public face of their businesses. Another idea is the merger of the Hyuuga’s Jyuuken with some kind of weapon style, heck with the whole Chinese thing going on with these two, it might even be a facsimile of a Chinese weapon-style (I’m rather partial to the Chinese Blade style seen in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), all they need is a weapon that could channel chakra in the way that could close tenketsu points like Jyuuken. The reason why I see this clan as craftsmen is due to the Byakugan, if they could train to ‘see’ faults or other such things in the item they are working on, they could end making all sorts of items of superior quality...especially weapons (shio nin only btw).

Hatake-Mitarashi Clan:
Founders – Kakashi and Anko
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – Assassinations / Security Guards
Clan Summons – Snakes
Quirks – Kakashi’s easy-going nature and diehard other side. Anko’s sadistic side. Both founders’ professionalism, observant natures, realism.
Notes – This will probably be the deadliest clan of Shio Nin, that’s not even counting their snake summons. Members of the Clan could work as security in the Nara-Yamanaka run Inns all over Wave Country.

Sarutobi Clan:
Founders – Asuma and Kurenai, with Konohamaru as the adopted son.
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – Shinobi Training / Teachers
Clan Summons – Monkeys
Quirks – Asuma’s smoking. Kurenai’s...lack of quirks.
Notes – Clan members could be responsible for a sudden explosion of schools in Wave Country, incidentally creating an educated work force in Wave, these schools could be set up to find and educate potential nin in the general Wave populace, or even the entire population of children in especially remote villages. They could work closely with either the Uzumaki or Tsuki clans to find the potential nin. The clan itself could produce several genjutsu specialists or jack-of-all-trade nin to be better teachers.

Shio Clan:
Founders – Iruka, Lee, and Sakura
Specialty (as Individual Nin/Civilians) – No specialities, they are the wild cards of Shiogakure
Clan Summons – Turtles
Quirks – No actual unifying trait...accept maybe a love/habit for hard-work?
Notes – This ‘Clan’ isn’t one strictly speaking as it is made up of Wave Nin that haven’t been adopted into the other six clans. However, at first, this Clan could be a clan of orphans or street kids that have been left over from Gato’s reign in Wave Country. I suppose they would also work with the Sarutobi Clan with taijutsu training, if the trainee does not belong to any other clan that is. Yes, Lee won’t be so...youthful, mostly at Sakura’s insistence ^.^;
