It is a cool night as you sit at the mouth of the cave you live in, looking out into the night sky, stars arch up from the horizon like a glowing white band. You have always loved the night sky since you first saw it. It makes you think about things.

You think about the others you live with. Until very recently you had come together and stayed together simply because it felt right, but everyone was distant with one another for all that, willing to take what they wanted from anyone.

But, suddenly they were becoming closer, you felt a sudden surge of...something as you though about it.

Were things not better this way? That other had come to you and trusted you with her little one. She had trusted you, and because of that she had been able to sleep.

Wasn't that good? Working together? Being Close?

When you think about it you feel light and good inside your chest, a smile comes to your face.

It was good. You would tell the others it was good.

When you explained Friendship to the Women they were interested, the idea of working together to get better results intrigued them, while some were reluctant to take on other peoples burdens, the thoughts of their own being lessened when the time came compelled them to really give it some thought. And so they began talking more with you and one another, and soon friendships started to form between them, but with you most of all.

You have a feeling they look up to you, even the much older ones. They paint your face, show you how to make your hair pretty, tell you secrets about looking better and finding food better. It's not long before you are the most well done up female in the group, some seem like they are unhappy with this turn of events but you ease this by teaching them too.

When you go to the males you find all of them clustered away from the old one with grey hairs who thought you how to make fluffy pelts, when you try to go over the one who spoke to you last time grabs you and pulls you away.

"No. He is pale and weak and if we go near him we will become the same."

Looking at him you see he is slumped against the cave wall, his breathing uneven, his skin pale, sweaty and covered in angry red blotches. You have never seen anything like it before.

First we should quiz him as best we can about what he may have eaten, or been stung/bitten by, that could have done this. Since no one else appears to be effected, it may not be an illness. We can do that without getting too close.

Ask for some sort of benevolent spirit to intervine (or, failing that, one who'd think it was amusing to stop the "pale and weak" from this grey hair)...then start asking what happened from a distance. Try to ease suffering by administering meds with a long stick.

Consensus seems reasonable (ask about possible causes, provide food/water/medicine, don't get closer than you have to unless you have a definite non-disease diagnosis). But while we can ask from a distance, he may not be able to answer (his breathing is uneven - hard to shout or otherwise make his voice carry), so we might have to use a lot of yes/no questions with gestured answers.

I vote for providing some of the 'giggling herb' and one of the things that made us feel better. Our speech is still pretty crude to try a remote diagnosis and at least the giggle herb should make him more comfortable.
