Unconscious Sexism

Unconscious Sexism

Unread postby Grrarrggh » January 2nd, 2022, 12:48 pm

As I was re-reading HPNFP I noticed that there were a few instances of sexism which I'm assuming was unconscious on your part. A few examples: many of your non-canon characters, especially those in positions of power, are male. Goldfarb, Healer Stanhope, Carpenter, Fitz-willis, Holmes, AND their lads. It's even Melissa Bulstrode's father that comes to Hogwarts. Plus nearly every time Hermione mentions one of her parents or they are in a scene it is her father that is front and centre. How he feels about things, the advice he doles out. Then there is Luna's sudden and surprising ideas about how girls need to be attractive to boys, whereas it doesn't matter how boys look. That one really came out of nowhere.

I'm sure none of these things were done on purpose, but it might be good to think about a few small rewrites.
