Truly, a sad event! But at least its ending was worthy and excellent, a satisfying conclusion to the "inspirational tale".

Haven't seen this one listed yet so: Escaping Fate by Arashi Leonhart, also on the Beast's Lair forums, this time with BGM.

Official summary: "Even if he is betrayed by his ideals, the life he saves may be worth it all..."

It's a Fate/Stay Night fic, post Fate-route, starting with Shirou saving an orphan, who more-or-less imprints on him the same way he did to Kiritsugu. It's definitely one of the better Fate/Stay Night fics, maybe even the best. Even the Deus Ex Machina is satisfying.

I just finished reading a spectacular piece of writing. It is a 70 000+ words oneshot written in first person. I don't really now how to describe it so just give it a try despite it's horrible title... It is not a selfinsert or any shit like that.

That story is on the Pending +1 list for recommended Harry Potter stories. One more up vote and it makes the fully recommended.
They are characters we all know, and dislike. They are the reason for the story. The reason the plot moves ahead towards its end. No story of any quality can exist without these most important of characters. They are the reason for heroes to exist.
The antagonist, the 'bad guy'

A Little Talk

Marvel comics Crossover. Another one shot. Dumbledore talks with a certain student...

Addition to the Fray

Yet another one shot. Set during Marvel's Civil War series. A certain ruler joins the fray..

The only Naruto story I have read is Team 8. I was waiting for the next chapter of HPNFP and decided to check it out. I've started to stream Naruto on netflix to get back ground info. Team 8 was way better than the cartoon. I'm afraid to try any other Naruto stories because I have such low expectations for any other story. I checked out the recommended Naruto thread. Is there anything that is even close to the quality of Team 8 out there?

Depends on what you mean by 'quality' are their fics out there with the same level as Team 8? Sure but it really depends on what you're looking for. Personally I'd start with 'One Small Step' by Shawny Wong should be in the Naruto rec's thread

There are a few, I looked through the list with a beginner in mind. If you haven't read or watched canon you should start with a nice AU starting from the beginning or at least very early. I would recomend one of these:

Hinatas_Story: Abandoned but a very good romance as far as it goes, start after the timeskip.
Naruto The Specialist:Starting from infant Naruto goes on to the team assignments or so, very good but probably abandoned as well. A bit darker than team 8.
The Lavender Beast of Konoha: Naruto is not a main character here but very good serious comedy. Start about a year before canon.
Senju Naruto: Start before Naruto is born and follow him growing up. Good stuff based on him having a different mother.
Scorpions Disciple: Naruto meat a different S-class ninja as a child and grow up a bit different. Still active, last update a few days ago.
Spying no jutsu: Start after the retrieval of Tsudane but before anything else of importance. Naruto do a solo spying mission... Good humor and action.

There are quite a few good ones starting during the wawe-arc as well but I can't remember any of them at the moment... And only "spying no jutsu" of the above is finished.

I wouldn't call 'Naruto the Specialist' probably abandoned. The author is military and was deployed. Their profile was updated in August and indicated that they had returned. Story-wise, well I favorited it after finishing reading through it just now. Hinata's Story is pretty good (though as abandoned as one can be without official notice), and Spying no Jutsu is also pretty good. Just wish the sequel would get updated. From what I recall of Senju Naruto, that one's also pretty decent.

All in all, pretty good list of naruto fics to teeth on.

And Scorpion's Disciple isn't still active. The last update was indeed a few days ago, but it was an update saying the author wouldn't be able to continue the story and a posting of a summary for the rest of the story.

He did post an outline, so any sufficiently skilled author could put in the stuff between and we'd see it finish.

Bugger, I just saw the alert and was happy. Normally someone else taking up a fic suck big time unless they have their own idea of where to take it.

It's the Marvel-verse,
"Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move."

You're talking about the last sentence of the most recent chapter, right?

Higher Learning by Strike Fiss

(Links to chapters are near the bottom of the page)

Eva fanfic that I happened across and spent the past several days reading. No author prepared summary (from before FF.net), but it depicts Eva rather well, starting midway through the anime with a time travel divergence. Despite some grammatical and spelling errors, it is an excellent story.

It is rather lengthy, but certainly worth the time it takes to read (my eyes should stop leaking in the next minute or two...). And this is nothing like Nobody Dies (though I may have still chuckled a couple times). If you don't like the depression of Eva canon, this story is not for you.

The Golden Power - Post Twilight Princess fic. Despite trying to settle back into his old life in Ordon, Link finds himself with a surplus of pent up energy and an addiction to the thrill of battle that nothing in the backwater village can really quite satisfy.

Not sure whether there's already been a rec for this story, but it's probably my favourite piece of Legend of Zelda fanfiction, so I thought I'd toss it up here. While the author pulls things that have caused (and continue to cause) me to raise my eyebrows, they've managed to pull off their riskier ploys fairly well, for the most part. Definitely worth giving a chance.
