Though I hand it to you Tempest for pointing that out, I think Edo Tensei has long since gone beyond the point where a minor discrepancy like that can be considered a plot hole. I mean, the technique brings people back to life from the dead, at that point I think making his eyes work again is the least of all the things it could do (also, considering that that's not his actual corpse, but just... dust or sand or whatever the other two Kage were made of surrounding corpses, that also has to count for something).

Well, just to clarify, oficially the Edo Tensei requires human sacrifices to work (which makes me wonder where Kabuto is getting them... but that only adds to the creepy factor), and the resurrected person has ALL of his/her abilities intact, including the kekkei genkai. Otherwise, resurrecting Itachi and Nagato would be completely pointless. While the zombies look like they don't have functional eyes, that seems to be only a styilization choice on part of the author, probably to indicate they are completely mindless. Deidara's eyes were perfectly normal when Kabuto placed the kunai with the seal in his body.

Nevertheless, I'm also curious if the seals placed in the person would still take effect. And I'm not only referring to the caged bird seal on Hizashi. There is also the cursed seal on Kimimaro for example.
I'm confused. "For the first time since they were born, they'll experience war!"? Does the Suna-Oto Invasion during the Chunin Exam not count?
Not really, as the genin didn't participate in that battle. Only Team 7 and Shikamaru did (technically) because Sasuke went after Gaara and the other followed him.
Also, the map rearranges the countryside AGAIN. Hidden Mist is in that tiny spot next to Lightning Country, instead of down in those islands like was shown in part I at the Chunin Exam? River Country has Hidden Valley or is now Valley Country? We have Hidden Stone AND Hidden Rock, right next to each other country-wise?
I'm also confused (and annoyed) by that. But it could be a mistake on part of the translator. At the very least, we now know where Hidan originates from.

Edit:
But now I'm back to... why the hell are we still pulling more (indestructible) opponents out of our asses? Is it because having 80k ninja fighting 100k (entirely B, A, S-rank) ninja isn't challenging enough, not counting Kabutomaru, Zetsu himself, Madara, and eventually Sasuke? So let's pull out 22-23 MORE ninja that coincidentally can't be killed?
Normally I would agree with you there. But man! An army of ninjas and samurais with elemental magic versus an army of ninja clones and ninja zombies! Can't we just stop thinking too much about that and just enjoy it for the cool factor?

Another thing I thought about for a bit:

Why are only 3 former kages shown? Were the former Hokages unable to be summoned again? Obviously the body isn't needed, and the Edo Tensai against Sarutobi strongly implies that losing a soul to the shinigami wouldn't have stopped an impure resurrection of the Yondaime, so the lack of their presence has me quite stumped. Not to mention the several other kages from Sand, Mist, and Cloud. :???:
It might just be that Orochimaru was unaware that the Fourth had his soul eaten by the Shinigami, after all his dialog during his ambush of team seven in the forest of death suggests he didn't know how the Kyuubi was stopped, and thus the summoning would have failed anyway.
If the problem isn't solved, there are still survivors you missed.

An overall decent chapter that I was relatively content with, nitpicks aside. There wasn't really much there that I can point to to complain or praise that hasn't been done before and better by previous posters, so I'll make a few predictions/guesses at how things may go.

#1 - We'll have long bouts of ninja vs. zombie ninja fighting, probably with plenty of flashbacks. Enough to keep this thing going for a good long while yet.

#2 - Things start to wind down, the good guys are winning, if only not by much, when Saskue shows up, proceeds to destroy anyone and everyone that gets in his path, possibly with an even further evolved god-eye. Setting up a confrontation with Naruto.

I dunno why, but I'm thinking someone or several someones are going to die quite suddenly in this war, assuming they'll go the un-typical ninja way and have both sides show up at some blasted out landscape and throw thier forces at one another anyway. That's just a niggling suspicion though.

I think we can expect about half the cast to get killed off.
Also, I have to punch you, jgkitarel, because I spent a lot of time on the nanoha wiki trying to locate information on mages being trained due to being above a certain rank, only to remember and confirm that you were the one that came up with that. - Phht

If you remember from the third Shippuden movie,
Spoiler: show
the suna and leaf forces were all set up on the border with giant artillery ready to start a fight like medieval forces.
So I am completely expecting kishi to just have both armies just rush straight at each other and start fighting in two mass globs.

Apparently Kishi has been playing EVE then! At least we know the servers and lag won't be an issue here. :innocent:

Okay folks, I'm gonna lock the thread and start a 4th (and likely final) debate thread. If things are reaching the end, thiswill be where to discuss it.
"Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move."
