I am going to be so cynical when I see this movie sometime next week.

Ironically this thread convinced me to go see Sherlock Holmes instead of Avatar. I walked out of the theater willing to kill someone for the sound track.....good times.

So, I went and saw Avatar IMAX 3D.

You can stop laughing Dervon, someone else paid.I thought it was a good movie to see once. The effects were fantastic, the world insanely detailed, and the creatures fascinating. But the plot didn't live up to a tenth of the movies budget. If you don't care that there are no true twists and just indulge in the scenery porn, it is worth it. Sorta.
Odd that. It actually worked.

Well, at least you didn't feel like you wasted money.

Nice little avatar fic that explores what could happen. Though I doubt it would happen this way.

Slave force is so much more convenient after all:

Not really, having an indigenious slave force would mean a lot of non-paying jobs, and in an economy that close to collaspe you need to have as many people working an earning money as you can. Number of paying jobs is a major indicator of the overall health of an economy, and while slavery is cheeper and has a history of getting stuff done, it isn't going to help lift a society out of a depression. That said, every major culture has had their 'slave class,' in America's case they are the illegal Mexican immigrents, but that is another matter. Of course there is another reason why leaving the Na'vi alive would be a detriment, it would mean there are witnesses to tell the tale of how they are being oppressed by the humans, and we have already seen the power of the Marry Sue planet has over bleeding hearts.
