You Know What Sucks?

Unread postby Nasdaq89 » March 3rd, 2010, 3:30 am

That if you accidentally put in the wrong password too many times, you need a captcha code to log in. That's not the bad part. The bad part is where the captcha isn't there. And that no matter how long you wait, you HAVE TO HAVE THE CAPTCHA TO LOG IN.

So, new name until that get's fixed. Any admins wanna take a look at it?

Wait, is this like, cumulative, or at one time for the password wrong thing?

Also, if you are who I think you are, you have been sorely missed.

Quite so. If this is Nasdaq with the funny Raikage avatars please come back.
I remember nearly getting perma banned because they thought I was a spammer.

He could be referring to any of us in that case :biggrin1 (or do Anti's problems outweigh everyone else's such that we'd refer to him by default?)

And now I'm curious how the thing is implemented. It would make sense if it were account based, though attempting from different IPs or browsers could work if the website isn't as secure as it could be. Also, you might check to see if your adblocker is stopping the captcha from showing. I had that happen to me once <_<

An image with random text or numbers that have to be typed in to validate that it isn't some spam-bot or automatic account maker. Sadly, it doesn't do anything about Nigerians or Philippinos accessing the forum to create spam messages. Luckily, the wise adminstrators of the board instituted the ten post before new topic and review before publicized options.

But the Captcha probably blocks more attempts than we are aware of.

I hit the login key to quickly, and my autofill hadn't filled the password in yet, so it said wrong password. Then I manually type it in, and realize that was the wrong one too late. Then I type in my other regular one and realize WAIT, this is the only forum I decided to use a NEW password on, and thus it locked me out until I type in the captcha. Which normally would be just a minor annoyance. But there is no captcha to type in, the image isn't there.
Ouch man... You tried logging in from a different browser?
Jah, sadly no such luck. Problem is on the server side, not me.

And yeah, that is me. Love those avatars. And yeah, I'm 'back.' Never really left, just haven't posted cus I couldn't. Figured I'd at least use another name cus I got tired of not posting.

Hello,

If you are still getting prompted for the captcha and not seeing it, let me know. I had turned off captcha completely because it was causing problems.
Sincerely,
