He'd have to accept the Toad Summoning contract in the first place.

Not nescissarily. Natural energy, to me at least, seems like it'd be s special thing your summons could teach you if you gain enough respect rather than a thing unique to frogs. The oil itself and the specific gama-katas might be unique to them bit natural energy, i doubt it.

*summons Kyuubi*
kyu: Mwa ha ha freeeeee!
Kurenai: Summons dissappear when they run out of chakra right?
Naruto: ... FUC-!
and that's how the kyuubi gets out every time.
Also if Akatsuki's anything to go by ripping it out would kill Naruto, plus it's a pretty crappy seal if you can summon out of it and 9T might not go back in after.

Flying foxes! Which are big fruit bats you get in Australia and some of Asia. They ate our apricots.
(Thou should not choose a summon for the name alone :P)

But, on the other hand, if Naruto had a biju summoning contract, he could seriously screw with Akatsuki. For instance, what would happen to that statue if Naruto summoned 2T or something, considering the whole "had to grab the biju in numerical order" thing. Would it be like playing Jenga and someone pulled the structural piece out? :panic:

Now I'm imagining the demons forming a religion worshiping Naruto as the savior of biju. Except that heretic Kyuubi, of course. That one was cast down to the 15th layer of hell, also known as the Laughing Naga Clones Hell.

...

Now there would be a crazy summon. Naga Clones~!

OH HO HO HO~!
That'd be scary.

Heh, Naruto could summon them all to Ame (except Naruto is neither a vindictive or magnificent bastard) .

:animlol: He could summon one somewhere, Akatsuki could go recatch it, the summon another one somewhere else etc over and over and Akatsuki have no idea how they're going missing, just that they have to catch them again and again and hope they can manage to hold them all at once. My crack senses are tingling.

I'm finding this amusing, but I will reiterate that I have this whole thing nailed down in my outline. And it all works out for reasons you all don't know about yet...

Disconnected - did you name your Billy vs. Snakeman character after Shino's mom?

obviously you don't have to answer this, you know spoilers and all, but lets assume you allow sage chakra and natural energy to exist in your story; would you make it unique to the toads or somthing that an honored summoner could be taught by their summons?

For several reasons I think Naruto would benefit best from a dog summons. There are many varying breeds that are useful for all sorts of things. Dogs are found nearly everywhere, and beyond that dogs tend to have a certain loyalty to their master that he would benefit from. As few friends as he's had it could only do good things for him to have a loyal playfull companion as his summon. He might have to avoid summoning fox hounds though. On top of that it would add an extra element of recon to their team.

I think it would be hilarious if the boss summon was a normal lap dog with near biju powers (I like the idea of Manda being ripped to shreds by a Chihuahua or a Pomeranian).

No, a Corgi. Anything less than that is just undignified, and I doubt that most of the larger dogs would follow any of the toy breeds, no matter how powerful they are. They may not be cats, but they have *some* pride.

Dresden Files Brothers Gruff. That's my suggestion. Because the images of Naruto summoning Tiny or the Eldest Brother Gruff are simply beautiful.

Care to fill those of us who haven't yet read the entire book series? Just to tell us what they are. I'm thinking goats, but I'm not sure.

Magical Faerie goats. Come in at least four tiers. Lowest are generic and pretty much cannon fodder. Next walk around in badass longcoats and use machineguns. Third tier is an absolutely massive warrior with Chyristalline armor and weapons. Oldest Gruff is a snarky ancient magic user, a bit like a faerie version of Harry.

hehe... Queen Titania's personal hit squad. And they keep after their target (Harry Dresden, in this case) come hell or high water. First batch that came after him were the weakest and still put the hurt on him (and his assistant gave him grief about being beaten down by a bunch of billy goats). The second batch grew brains and used firearms. They only lost because Harry doesn't have hooves and therefore doesn't have issues with ice. And because his own flesh doesn't burst into flame at the touch of iron. Number three was a single giant gruff that found him on neutral turf and only backed down because Murphy, Harry's 5-foot-nothing tall police friend, managed to use the gruff's sense of honor against him. Number four was Tiny. Harry estimated that he probably weighted in the ten-ton range. Harry beat him by using his size against him... and by triggering a booby trapped train locker. And even then, it was a close thing.

And the Eldest Gruff... well... I'm breaking one of my own cardinal rules here about taking stuff out of context, but here's the excerpt:
Spoiler: show
Small Favor, By Jim Butcher wrote:
And a voice, a very deep, resonant voice, said, “Be thou gone from this place, creature. My quarrel is not with thee.”

Magog answered with a howl and spat out words in a language I did not understand.

“Be that as it may, Elder One,” the huge voice said, gently and with respect, “I also have a duty from which I may not waver. We need not be at odds this night. Depart in peace, Elder One, with your beast of burden.”

Magog snarled again in that foreign tongue.

The deep voice hardened. “I seek no quarrel with thee, Fallen One. I pray thee, do not mistake peaceable intention for weakness. I do not fear thee. Begone, or I will smite thee down.”

The gorillalike Denarian howled. I heard its claws dig and rip at the ground as it hurtled forward toward the source of the resonant voice.

Magog, it seemed, had a really limited vocabulary when it came to repartee.

I couldn’t see what happened next. There was a flash of gold-green light, like sunlight reflected from fresh spring grass, and a detonation in the air, a sound that was not quite a crack of thunder, not quite an explosion of fire. It wasn’t even loud so much as it was pervasive, something that I felt along the whole surface of my body as much as I did on my eardrums.

The wall of the cannery shattered inward, and Magog—what was left of Magog—came hurtling through it. It landed on the ground about twenty feet away from me. Enormous sections were missing from the front of the gorillalike body, including its thighs and most of the front half of its torso. It wasn’t a messy wound, either. The empty chunks were limned with a gentle yellow-green glow that seemed to seal in any blood. Even as I watched, Magog quivered once, then went limp. Tiny sprouts of green flowered up from the fallen corpse over the course of a couple of seconds, leaves spreading, then budding out into wildflowers in a riot of colors.

The coating of flowering plants seemed to devour the body of the gorilla from around the mortal body beneath—that of a muscular young man, which gradually emerged, though was still modestly shrouded in a veil of flowers. He was thoroughly dead, his eyes glassy, empty, and there were flowers growing in a hole where his heart had been. He wore a leather collar, and hanging from it, in a little rubber frame like a dog tag, was another blackened denarius. He was a kid, Molly’s age at the oldest.

From outside there was a deep, resonant sigh. Then another heavy, ground-shuddering thump. And another.

Coming closer.

My heart jumped right up into my teeth. Sure, I had no idea who that really was out there, but all those thees just screamed that it was one of the Sidhe. They really got into the archaic modes of speech—or maybe it was fairer to say that they never got out of them. Anyway, odds were running high that this was Eldest Brother Gruff come to settle up with Winter’s champion in this affair, and given that he’d just swatted down one of the Denarians like he was an uppity pixie, it didn’t bode real well for me.

I found myself taking a step back as that thumping sound came again, and the floorboard beneath my foot creaked precariously.

That gave me an idea. The bigger they are, et cetera. If Eldest Gruff was even bigger than the last one had been, maybe I could use the rickety flooring against him—long enough to get myself out to the boat and off the island, in any case. Open water was another fantastic neutralizer for the enormous size discrepancy. Setting realistic goals has always been the key to my success. I didn’t have to win a fight with this thing. I just had to survive long enough to run away.

I took a chance, picked the most solid-looking floorboard I could see, and eased across the floor to the far side of the building, the one nearest the water, and turned to face the hole in the wall that Magog’s body had smashed open on its way in.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I readied my will and shook out my shield bracelet, in case I needed it. I lifted my staff and pointed it at where I thought Eldest Gruff ’s head might be when he came in, so he would know I was serious.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I adjusted the aim on the staff a little higher.

Thump. Thump.

Sweat trickled off my brow.

Thump. Thump.

How far did this guy have to walk?

Thump. Thump.

This was just getting ridiculous, now.

Thump. Thump.

And Eldest Gruff appeared in the opening.

He was five feet tall. Five-two, tops.

He wore a robe with a cowl, pulled back so that I could clearly see his curling ram’s horns, the goatlike features, the long white beard, the yellow eyes with their hourglass pupils.

And in his right hand he carried a wooden staff carved with runes that looked almost precisely like my own.

He took a limping step forward, leaning on his staff, and when he planted the tool on the ground, it flickered with green light that then splashed out onto the earth beneath it, spreading outward in a resonating wave. Thump.

The floorboards creaked beneath him, and he came to a cautious stop and faced me quietly, both hands on his staff. His robe was belted with an old bit of simple rope. There were three stoles hanging through it—purple ones, faded and frayed with the passage of time.

Those were the mantles worn by members of the Senior Council, the leaders of the White Council of Wizards. They were, generally speaking, the oldest and strongest wizards on the planet.

And Eldest Brother Gruff had, evidently, killed three of them in duels.

“This,” I said, “has really not been my day.”

I don't know. I've seen some really big dogs whine and bow down to dogs the size of one of their toes. Smaller dogs tend to be men little beasts.

So have I, until said huge dog (a Mastiff "puppy" that could knock over a chain link fence with ease) got fed up with it and barked right in the little bug's face. Once. The little terror (a toy poodle) proceeded to shut up, blink about three times, then run off like the big guy had just tried to eat him, yipe-ing in terror all the way into the house.

When it comes to legitimately small dog breeds there is always strength in numbers. The smart ones only go after the big dogs when they have their posse to back them up.

And I have yet to see them be successful in even their little gangs. Also, big dogs in general are a lot more patient most than smaller breeds, mainly due to the fact that they were bred to do actual work I believe, while toy breeds were simply there to be pampered, which would make for a good Boss because they'd probably take the time to at least formulate a plan of attack, whereas a toy breed would dive in expecting things to go their way simply because it always has for them.

Never said that it worked, I just said that the smart ones tend to "attack" in groups of 2-3. Though in most of the cases i've seen it's clearly been play.

Actually they don't have to seal or capture the bijuu in order, they only have to seal the nine tails last. in Chapter 329 pages 8-9 they're shown sealing the three tails before sealing the two tails. Later in chapter 331 pages 12 and 13 they're shown sealing the three tails as the fifth bijuu to be sealed in the statue before sealing they go to seal the two tails. So even though it was shown that they captured Yugito before the three tails there were three other bijuu captured and sealed before Yugito was captured and after Gaara. Later on Itachi and Kisame are shown capturing the four tails in chapter 353 so those earlier three are likely the 5, 6 and 7 tails.

I imagine that the nine tails simply has so much more chakra than the other bijuu that they somehow use the other eight tailed beasts to counter the Kyuubi's near infinite chakra. Itachi says something along those lines in chapter 353.

Hum, if this isn't the place to put it, let me know and I'll move it.

I just had a crazy thought: what if Shino and Hinata had summons? It's probably not going to be in the story.

For Shino, I choose dragonflies. I have seen dragonflies in my backyard eat termines and they are quick and beautiful when they go after the termines.

For Hinata, I choose otters. Otters are cute, friendly, smart, and playful. Hinata needs more happiness in her life.

I apologize if this is inappropriate.

It's pretty close to on topic, so I don't think it's inappropriate, but then, I have taken part in some rather epic thread derailments.

A Hinata summon. I think it would be downright hilarious if she got crows somehow. I know Itachi has a crow fetish, but the little buggers are really smart and good information gathering. If it's anything like how they are here, a mob of crows isn't anything worth getting worked up over Unlike, I don't know, a building sized toad.
