Webcomics recomendations

Unread postby Jaur » September 13th, 2009, 6:22 am

Hi
I saw Lindseys recomendations and thought that I should add my own...
I was suprised to see that my two favourite webcomics where missing from the list:

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20021104

http://goblins.keenspot.com/d/20050626.html

Both stories are ongoing and are rather long already. they both start out black and white before they turn into colour comics.

I hope you like them and perhaps post your own recomendations here.

http://www.sinfest.net - Starts sorta' meh, later evolves into what I like to call "Calvin & Hobbs: The Later Years" :D. Heck, this even gets acknowledged at one point.

http://www.nerfnow.com/ - Delicious TF2 comics for the most part.

http://www.abominable.cc/ & http://www.diggercomic.com/ for story-content. Both are pretty epix, IMO.

http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/ Erfworld, once part of the Giant in the Playground website. Awesome stuff here.

http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php - Because I just know someone will recomend this. Also, very good. :)

...

That's it for me, I think.

Kal, I suppose that with the original list you mean lindseys recomendations that I mentioned in the first post?
You don't have to go so far for that. It can be found at http://www.viridiandreams.net/ it is currently the first post after the progress bar....

Alright then...

MS Paint Adventures.

Linked to TV tropes as it's technically 4 separate comics hosted on one site. The best ones, of course, have their own Trope pages.

Problem Sleuth is a long winding epic about a man trying to escape his office. Forts are built, Cosmic Horrors are killed, and people ascend to Godhood. Also lots of weird puzzle crap.

Homestuck takes itself more seriously than Problem Sleuth, but has still proven to be quite as good. Also happens to be a webcomic with awesome music. Yeah. Involves 4 friends as they struggle to understand the bizarreness of the computer game Beta they all picked up.

And because it really should be listed...

Bob And George, Granddaddy of Sprite Comics. It starts off fairly rough (intended to be a filler for a drawn comic) it proves itself through randomness, a joke-a-day style, and being completely audacious (An Electromagnetic BB Gun that fires them at the speed of LIGHT).

Hello,

For those who couldn't find it, here is the link to "Runsamok's Favorite Webcomics" on the Viridian Dreams Blog:

http://www.viridiandreams.net/?p=97

And of course, there are plenty of good webcomics out there that I haven't seen or just don't read often, but are still good. =) Feel free to add your own favorites or comment on the blog entry.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke (aka Runsamok)

My own recommendations that are not previously on here:

http://www.drmcninja.com It's a website about a doctor who is a ninja--or a ninja who is a doctor. I'm not quite sure. It's exactly as zany as it sounds, and a whole lot of fun.

http://www.undefined.net/1/0/ A very good comic. minimalistic but thought provoking.

Edit: I didn't put this one at first, because I found it hard to believe no one else had posted it. However, it would appear no one has, so here it is, Order of the Stick. A very funny comic based on D&D humor. www.giantitp.com

Blame TV tropes.
I'm going to recommend CharCole, a pokemon webcomic.
Cole, 18, human, accidentally gets turned into a charmander (NEVER TOUCH DADDY'S MACHINES!). While waking up and having a mild panic attack incompetent trainer, Brian, wacks him from behind with a Pokeball. Stuck with PokeSpeak and worried Brian is going to get his pokemon killed Cole reluctantly tags along. Then a 2000 year old psychopathic Mew with a fondness for mind screws takes an interest. Poor Cole.

http://www.samandfuzzy.com: It's about a cab driver and his midget bear partner/tormentor. That's just how it starts though. Character development causes a pretty damn good story to be born. Maintains a good balance between comedy and serious plot development.

Hmm, I'm surprised there wasn't a rec for 8 Bit Theater. It's loosely based on Final Fantasy, and is worth quite a few laughs to anyone familiar with those games or the genre in general. The comic's epilogue was just posted today, ending its run of nearly a decade with over a thousand comics.

http://www.nuklearpower.com/8-bit-theater/

Was there another recommendation thread around here somewhere? I could have sworn I'd posted recs here before...

*searches a bit*

Nope, nothing.

Let's see, then. What else do I have in my favorites...

Evil Inc: http://www.evil-comic.com/
Superhero/villain parodies.

Schlock Mercenary: http://www.schlockmercenary.com/
Crazy space humor.

User Friendly: http://www.userfriendly.org/
Technical Support/Computer Science humor.

http://guildedage.net/ - Guilded Age is a heroic fantasy webcomic in which six fairly competent adventurers conveniently meet and form a group to make a living of... well... adventuring.
Code: Select all
www.dungeond.com/
- dungeons and denizens: what life is like for monsters in the dungeon crawl.
Code: Select all
http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/
- Unsounded: Thief-brat Sette Frummagem is on a mission, and she'll lie, cheat, and steal to make sure it's a success (she'll lie, cheat, and steal anyway). Condemned to aid her in her rotten endeavours is a rotten corpse who seems oddly talented with the supernatural, and oddly not laying motionless in the dirt.

Ow, My Sanity - putting the 'love' back in 'Lovecraft'.

A spoof of the Unwanted Harem trope. With Eldritch Abominations as the harem.

Roll For Initiative.

incomplete but occasionally amusing web comic based on a D&D campaign I DM'ed. Mind the "skip filler" links, they're very handy.

Sluggy Freelance definitely deserves a mention.
Was wondering if someone would mention that.

This is one that may be a bit meh for most of you, but I've found it quite amusing. Updates are a bit spotty, since the author has a full workload in front of her. An good parody of the Magical Girl Genre in general.

Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuki.
Also, I have to punch you, jgkitarel, because I spent a lot of time on the nanoha wiki trying to locate information on mages being trained due to being above a certain rank, only to remember and confirm that you were the one that came up with that. - Phht

ps238

A webcomic about little kids going to superhero school. Hijinks ensue. Starts off a little slow with just a bunch if gag-a-day strips, but as is usually the case a story starts forming.

Yeah. My opinion of it took that route too. Rare that you find a bunch of superhero like characters with very real faults. It's quite different from anything else I've ever read.

Sadly I have caught up to the current episode.

This comic is awesome, only one I like more is Goblins.

Kait is made of pure WIN and EPIC.
Spoiler: show
Less of the super-villain dialogue, eh?
Yes yes, okay. Fucksticks.

All of Aaron Williams stuff is great. PS238 is actually a print comic, but he's been posting it to the web for free as well. Full Frontal Nerdity is also worth checking out for some good Table top and general geek humor. Can be found at http://www.nodwick.com
