Entropy is a you-know-what…

I’ve had enough, and now that the chapter is up, I’m packing up my desktop and sending it off to be overhauled while it’s still under warranty. The surge that cooked my power supply last summer appears to have also contributed to my second hard drive failing, as well as various sound and graphics card issues. At this point, my email program is lagging out on me.

I’d like to thank the recent visitors to the tip-jar; your generosity highly  appreciated! The warranty is in effect, but the shipping is not free.

Hopefully I can get this beast back to normal and get back on track again. Writing is less than enjoyable when you spend half your time cursing your hardware!

  1. Hmmmm… apparently I was right to send it in. The power supply was hanging on by one screw. The video card’s heat sink was loose, causing it to overheat, and the remaining hard drive was about to die as well.

I just wish NeoComputers had their act together a little better. It has been a week now and they are still digging around. Our technician, Robin, castigated Lindsey over the phone because the power supply was poorly mounted, and for the loose parts. When she reminded him that we sent the computer back to them to have the power supply replaced (instead of them shipping it to us), he said he had no record of them doing the install. Lindsey produced the FedEx tracking number.

Next he tried to blame it all on our packing. Instead of peanuts between in the inner and outer boxes, Lindsey used those ‘air-pack’ cushions… as suggested by FedEx. But he claims that it was damaged in shipping.

I have a bad feeling that he’s going to try and weasel on the warranty coverage, claiming we damaged it in shipment. Let’s IGNORE the fact that we put a sheet of paper in the box listing the symptoms. The video card was freaking out with extended use (in a manner congruent with an over-heating problem) when it was still sitting on my desktop!

Lindsey wants us to *never* buy a computer from these guys again. I’m hesitating only because they’ve done such good work in the past. But this last mess has been a nightmare, and if they try playing games to weasel out on the warranty, then that will be it.
