  1. Nice.

Are you going to change some of your plans based on some (namely good) ideas that came from the original source? Like the most recent Arc?

  2. Awesome. I was saddened when I originally discovered Team 8 to find it hadn’t been updated in over a year. It’s awesome to see that, that’s no longer the case. It’s a great story, and one that I think deserves a proper end.

  3. Hey, just commenting here to say thanks for the work you put in on your fics, they’re great 😀

I’ve never been able to look at Kurenai or Harry Potter the same way since reading them, and it’s good to know more is in the works.

  6. Thank you for writing and sharing such an awesome fic. <3 The details you put in made me really get the picture on what the characters were doing/ thinking/ feeling.

    I don't have an ff.net account, so i decided to comment here….

While i was sad that Kurenai had to die, i am also curious as to who will replace her in leading the team?

I'm looking forward to reading more of your work. Keep it up! <3

  8. ok so r u still goin to update NoFP? cuz it’s been 8 months. i know one of your other posts said no stories are gonna be abandoned, but im checking if thats still true. this is one of the best, most in depth fics i have ever read. i really wanna see how everything turns out.

  9. Please don’t take this as nagging, or complaining, because it isn’t, at all. I want you to work at whatever pace works best for you. You don’t owe us anything.

But I would love it if you finished this chapter so you could begin work on the HP one.

My wife is reading the HP fic now and loves it too.

I may have to start watching/reading Naruto, whatever it is. If your Team 8 fic is as good as your HP one, I’m sure it will be a good read, but I am not familiar with the source material yet.

  10. I started reading this over a year ago, and I still love it. You need to update this and NoFP soon. BTW, am I an unfaithful Harry Potter fan if I read your story more than Deathly Hallows?

  11. Life (well, actually work) has been smacking me around lately. Not to mention some medical issues. I’m posting this as I keep hitting the wrong keys because I keep microsleeping. And, to be honest, I often leave work in entirely the wrong frame of mind to deal with Naruto OR Harry. I’ve added a little more this past weekend, and worked how a major conflict works (or doesn’t work) out… And now I need to re-watch some episodes again for fact-checking. But the last arc that will even slightly resemble canon is drawing to a close…

  12. I think I just finished reading NoFP for the fifth time today since you posted last.

There is something very compelling about that story, I think that it has to do with what person would NOT do what Harry has undertaken, given the chance? To go back and live life with more appreciation and love for the people that matter most, and save them and yourself from the mistakes you may have made the first time through, I think that is an opportunity most people would trade a lifetime for.

At any rate, I’ll continue to watch for the next chapter. Thanks for a great story!

  13. Stephen King can write 10 pages a day (5-7k wordcount depending on dialog).

This will be the last time I check your website. I’m not mad about Team 8 progression, just disappointed. If I had 1k+ fans waiting on me, I wouldn’t be “losing the beam”.

  14. Matthew, don’t listen to dave, we understand your not making money off of this and life does get in the way. Remember that most of us still wait and understand. I myself have had many problems health and job wise as of late. Keep up your great work. 🙂

  15. Dave, you’re an idiot. Stephen King is a WRITER…FULL TIME. That means he has THE TIME to write. Authorlord has a job, so does his wife and his BETA reader both have jobs. Authorlord does not make money off his works like Mr. King does. Mr. King has been writing for over 20 YEARS, whereas Authorlord has been wringing for 5 years and has written 8 stories in that time while working full time, doing EXCELLENT work, and trying to keep up a standard of writing that he can be proud of.

So go away and don’t piss off Authorlord. Because if he stops writing because of idiots like you, I’m going to beat you like an unwanted step-child.

Keep up the great work Authorlord!

  16. So, normally I’m not into fanfic, but a good friend of mine just linked me ‘Team 8’. I’ve read all 20 chapters twice now. Normally I’d say ‘wow’ when i read something good, but I feel in this case it’s not enough.

Normally I’m a typical guy, you know… never shows true feelings, macho at all the wrong times, etc etc. But when i read your story, your writings managed to do something only 2 authors have ever been able to accomplish.

They made me care about a character enough to shed tears at their passing. Actual tears, not emoticon sadface tears. I read a couple reviews saying you should have drawn out the scene with Kurenai… but you did it well. The suddenness, of it made me pause… ‘did that really just happen? OH NO!’

While I would never ask you to rush something, I would love to ask ‘when is chapter 21 coming?’

Also, do you accept Donations? This is the quality of writing I normally have to go to a bookstore to get my hands on.

  17. Well, not sure if you read everything here, but you have my ultimate support for you work with Team 8!! Its the most convincing and well done fanfiction for Naruto I’ve read.

Had it not been dearly recommended by a friend, I wouldn’t have bothered, as I’ve had bad experiences with very poorly done fanfictions in the past. But not your writing; its very professional and enjoyable to read. The relationships you’ve built with the characters have been well paced and believable.

Hopefully the recent “enlightenment’s” from the cannon won’t deter your own story; though I would be rather disappointed if Itachi isent doing what he’s doing for the same reasons (he’s a noble guy!. Whatever you do though, take the time you need. I understand how difficult it can be working, and having so many issues to deal with before you can do some of your passion.

Before I drag this too long, my best wishes go out to you!

  18. i started reading this when i broke my arm and know im just waiting for 21 we understand we would rather you take your time rather than do it in a day and have it be of a lower quality thanks man keep up the good work

  19. go ahead take your time in writing… doesnt matter but please dont die while you’re at it ,we dont want our fav fanfics to remain unfinished…

on a side note: man… killing Kurenai-san … well I’m not the one who should judge, but please consider that Team 8 started from her POV and she was more than just another integral character, and well…
you’ll be doing me a personal favour if you make the Hokage hand over Kurenai’s apartment to Naruto

  20. So when you say that the chapter is moving along nicely, are we talking a couple paragraphs a day, or can it be expressed some other way? Is it resonable to hope for it to be done by the end of 2010? 🙂

I’m looking forward to the new chapter with anticipation.

  21. First off all I would like to apologize if the words or phrases do not match very well because I’m using the google translator hahaha …

Second I would like to congratulate you because I love your story of Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past, I found the translation of your first chapters, where I found till it was translated chapter 20 and then on the search in the original language by translating I same, for the simple fact that I have a lot of curiosity about your story …

I would like to ask you if you no longer go on with your story or if you have raised to go further with it, maybe you lack of time prevents you keep writing, I found your other paguina so keep an eye if desides or if you are given the opportunity to continue this incredible story, my e-mail attachment if you have time to answer my question, still be on the lookout for your blog in case you wanted to tow something and tell you that I found many blogs in Spanish that will put your story and translated into our language, of course give you credit for it, so it’s fair to say that fans who have also softened in Spanish ..

Anyway, I said goodbye danto thanks for writing that great story and hoping that soon follow her, well, I stayed in Chapter 38 if written as more could put the website address where the nannies gone?

I will keep your stories in detail and once more congratulations for your stories!

  22. Sorry to say it, Dave has a point. One chapter per year is not “moving along nicely.” Viridian wrote some things in past, but now? I had my hopes, but frankly, I think it’s a lost cause.

  23. Loved this series, look forward to seeing an update.

Was starting to get the feeling you where avoiding killing any characters too much with haku and the 3rd. Kurenai kinda proved me wrong =( I really liked her in this story. Gonna miss her a lot but I guess the story will be a lot better for it though.

Looking forward to what happens next, guess it’s gonna be a lot harder now without Kurenai. It also sounds like your gonna have to be making more of it up rather than just changing canon so I can understand it taking longer.

  24. I agree with Dave. In two years there have been 2 chapters released for NoFP. 2 YEARS! I understand Matthew has a job and a life outside of writing, and I also understand that he’s not getting paid for writing the story. I also agree that comparing him to S King isn’t fair.

But when a person get’s this far into a story, (300k)
you have a certain amount of responsibility to finish it.

NoFP was started in January 2006 BTW. It’s coming up on it’s 5th birthday and it’s not even half done.

That being said however, you should finish the story Matthew. That or declare it abandoned, which would be a shame because it’s one of the best HP stories on the net, and I would really hate to see that happen

  25. First of all, fantastic stories, both. I found NoFP via fanfiction.net and Team 8 from your profile there. Interested in seeing the source material, I have now read and become firmly hooked on the Naruto manga, which my wife has now added to her growing list of proof that I am in fact a geek. I am unapologetic, and will more than likely seek out the anime version. Thanks for the introduction!

  26. Fanfiction.net’s review function and my elderly Blackberry Curve are at odds at the moment, but I just finished reading chapter 20 of Team 8, and I feel that I’ve jipped you by not reviewing just about every chapter.

Your story is well written and incredibly detail-oriented, and I really appreciate your even-handed character development. Writing from each character’s perspective is a great way to allow readers to discover the universe built in the story and make it feel real. It showed me what a capable writer you are. The contrasts are stupefying-my head whirls everytime the story shifts to Shino’s Vulcan-like character (not to mention vocabulary!) and your ability to nail the feelings of low self confidence of the abused young teenaged girl Hinata is floored me (especially when I take your age and gender into account). Reading Team 8 is an excersize in remembering how young teens think–how we *all* once thought–that for better or worse, the world revolves around you, and therefore all the negative actions and reactions of those around you are consequently your fault. The righteous anger and desire to fix injustices that Shino feels, the low self confidence and social confusion of Naruto and Hinata, the way perspectives change slowly and subtly, all balanced out by Kurenai’s mature and reasonable guidance.

She will be missed. (I was also lulled into complacency when characters that had died in canon such as Haku and Sarutobi, are still alive at this point in your fic. I am truly surprised that you chose to kill off a priciple character in such an abrupt way, but I trust your instincts as an author–up to a point. I can’t imagine how you plan to reveal Kurenai’s enigmatic past now; or how we will ever get insight into “the event that changed [the Team 8] AU that occured before Naruto was even born.” I suppose that would be my main question reguarding the future of the story after Kurenai’s death).

I also want to comment on how you’ve managed to keep the story impressively clean. A lot of fanfiction writers (and a lot of orginal fiction writers, for that matter) try to spice up a story by including a lot of profanity and sex. The fact that your story is compelling to many adult readers and only uses the “F”-curse once in 20 chapters is quite a testament to your writing abilities. Or at least it struck me as such! 😉

I respect your decision to develop your own AU separate from Naruto canon and gives us a different spin on a variety of characters, but your author’s note describing a revelation about Itachi’s motivations as “jumping the shark” worries me. I don’t always agree with how authors twist things around within their stories, and I know that anything goes in fanfiction, but I have a personal request: if you have the occasion to write about Naruto’s mother, please keep the recently-revealed canon details about her life in tact! I’d love to see your take on Uzumaki Kushina. Heck, if you *don’t* have an occasion to include her in Team 8, I’d love to see a Kushina short or omake!

Thank you for writing such a great story.

  28. I discovered HP & NoFP on FanFic.net and was so moved I’m typing this on a smartphone and I’ve let life slide to read it. What can I give in emotional support to thank you for as much writing as you’ve done so far? Is it abandoned? You wrote far enough that I’m replete from a fabulous feast, but you introduced subplots and enough unresolved threads that I- and apparently over a thousand others – would welcome/crave/salivate for more.

I see multiple posts named it “best fanfic ever, and I’m hoping your AU was not discouraged by canon.

I couldn’t find any reference to NoFP’s fate is there one? So many of my clients have been uplifted by canon HP and NOFP Harry & co are as inspiring.
