Short story published in Anthology

Friends, I have a confession to make.

Some of my writing time has been… diverted… to a side project. I was invited by Jim Bernheimer to contribute a short story to “Horror, Humor, and Heroes Volume 2: New Faces of Fantasy.” It’s now available on Amazon, a little sooner than I expected, here: http://astore.amazon.com/viridiandreams-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=17

I haven’t said anything before now for two reasons. One, I didn’t want to get people anticipating something that might get delayed or derailed. Two, to be honest, I didn’t want to jinx it. JB is a pretty exacting editor, so I consider getting a story into this an accomplishment by itself. It’s all original fiction, but I think some of you may recognize some contributor names.

I hope you all enjoy “Boomerang” as much as I enjoyed writing it. We’re running a promotion for everyone that gets a copy and leaves a review on Amazon. The first twenty will get a cameo appearance in Team 8, NoFP, or the sequel, tentatively titled “Boomerang 2: Bouncing Back from the Brink!”.

  1. Congratulations on getting published in the anthology. No need to apologize for working on fiction that is getting published 🙂 i hope to see some more soon.

  2. In celebration of the strong aussie dollar and me being a productive member of society this year while still mooching off my parents for rent-free accommodation; I have bought said book and it should arrive mid January as Amazon sucks for international shipments.

  3. A Cameo eh? Well, that is more than enough incentive for me!

  4. Heh, cool to know you got something published.

But am I a bad person for caring most about the way this means more progress on Team 8 chapter 21…?

  5. That’s a side project worth diverting effort to. One day, once I beat my natural tendency to procrastination, as well as my self-doubt and lack of confidence on my writing talent, I hope I can get published like you.

Until then, I’ll wait for chapter 21 of Team 8 with bated breath 😛

  6. Just read the short story on my Kindle. Very good read, with an interesting genre mix of urban fantasy with the A-Team.

Will we get to hear more of their adventures (of course preferably after a new NoFP chapter)?

  7. Congratulations!

That’s wonderful news. (I just found you on fanficnet, and was curious about Nightmares of Future Past). Is HHHV2 available as an ebook anywhere other than Amazon? (I have a non-Kindle…)

  8. Hello.

You don’t know me, in fact this is likly our first correspondence. However, that aside, I have a request to make.

Would you have some advice for someone aspireing to become a professional writer? Contacts or refferals? I am trying to break into the market myself, but it seems that everywhere I look all I have to show for my trouble is ‘what not to do’. I have several projects that I would love to publish, multi-chaptered sci-fi, fantasy, and contemporary.

Any advice or information would be most welcom.

    Your humble servant,

    CMAtanasio

    • Hello,

Hmm.. advice for an aspiring writer. Regarding getting published, I don’t have any contacts or referrals to give you, really. I’ve been published in one anthology and that was created by a friend of mine. I would suggest joining Critters Writers Workshop at http://www.critters.org/ for feedback on your writing. Also, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have some great resources at http://www.sfwa.org/
