NOFP chapters are posted to RoyalRoad

Hi folks! This is Lindsey (runsamok), posting an update. I realized that updates have been few and far between here and on the FaceBook group. Sorry about that!

We managed to avoid getting Covid. Matthew is still bedbound and has been since 2015. I’m working remotely from home and caring for him. He’s going through some physical therapy to treat ankle inversion. It has been a journey to find medical providers that offer in-home visits.

Writing has been on pause for some time now, so no updates to provide there. FanFiction dot net never responded to repeated appeals to bring back NOFP. So, I’ve posted the chapters here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/32542/harry-potter-and-the-nightmares-of-futures-past

  1. Thanks for the update. I Wish you the best. I read the Harry Potter story at least once a year. I absolutely love it. Thanks for the joy you have brought me.

  2. Honest question for you guys: Why don’t you use Ao3 as a place to upload NOFP? I feel like that might be a place that would get a tad more readership than Royal Road would.

    • AO3 does not allow for commercial promotion. Patreon falls under that rule and we have a Patreon site. In the ToS FAQ it goes into some detail about we want the archive to remain a non-commercial space.

  3. It’s great to hear from you! I saw the Royal Road chapters and I’m very pleased to see that there’s an up-to-date source online. We really do try to keep the eBook version at its best, but it’s not everyone’s preferred format. I’ve started the process of going through the Royal Road chapters, though, to ensure that the eBook matches them (apart from the typos it fixes; do you want any help in applying those to the main story?).

Best of luck with the therapy. Is there any way your readers can help?

  4. Thank you so much for the update, I’ve been worried! I still recc both Team 8 and NoFP to people when I get the opportunity – even incomplete, they are an inspiration (and prob a good part of why I write what I do now).

I hope you find a solution for Matthew’s health, and that he’s not too miserable stuck in bed all the time. And I’m glad he has you there for him.

    • Glad to hear anything, even if the situation is sort of in a “no news is good news” state. Hope you all can find a way for him to potentially keep writing as it was clearly something he enjoyed, but also always sending good vibes your way.

  5. I recently returned to FF.net and was going through my old stories. I saw Team 8 and decided to re-read it. I am reminded why I used to call it the best Naruto fanfic. Because it is. I hope someday it’ll be continued and more so that you be able to a medical provider that can help you. I know that struggle all so well.

  6. So glad to have an update! We worry when we don’t hear news for a while. I hope for Matthew’s sake he’s able to be creative again soon, but no nagging here! Update what and when you feel like it, or not. Focus on your health.

  8. Thank you for the update! I wish you and Matthew the very best.

On the AO3 subject: while you can’t promote websites for commercial purposes, such as Patreon, there’s no rules against sharing non-commercial websites. As long as you do not explicitly request donations, telling readers they can learn more about this story or ways to support the author on this website should keep you in the clear. AO3 has a huge audience, and I would love to read Team 8 there instead of Fanfiction dot Net.

  9. I’m sure writing is the last thing on your mind, I hope you both concentrate on feeling better!

With that said, since health takes priority (as it should), is it realistic to consider NOFP abandoned at this point? Will there come a point where you will post the plot bullet points in lieu of writing it? I’m currently re-reading for the nth time, and it drives me crazy every time I get to the end!

  10. Wow, okay, first of all, this is my favorite fanfic, like, ever, so, yay! You get my stamp of approval. But also, any updates? It’s been a while, and I’m hoping that NOFP will return. I understand sickness, but it’s been years going between updates, and I’m hoping that someday, we can get a new chapter. PLEASE, I’M BEGGING YOU THIS FANFIC IS MY ENTIRE LIFE I LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL. But really, yeah, in summary: I love this series and am hoping to get at the very least an update on what’s happening. If you even see this post, o great AuthorLord Scribe Runsamok, haha.

  11. Really good to hear both of you are still with us! All the best for the future.

I have a question though and I think posting it publically could prove useful for others, so I will just share it right here. In the last few weeks I’ve started working on a translation for personal use. A friend of mine really wanted to read NoFP, but is not particularly fluent in english. Is this alright with you? And if it is (provided I make significant progress) would a public post including a disclaimer and link to your patreon without any kind of monetization or advertisement for myself be acceptable as well?
Thank You very much in advance!
